Where the new comfortably blends with the old – where the modern office blocks stand beside the granite grandeur of the commercial past – New Zealand values its relatively short history and strives to keep historical places alive and useful.

Day 1: Arrive Christchurch
Welcome to Christchurch, the ‘Garden City’. Perhaps visit the International Antarctic Centre – the ‘must see’ attraction in Christchurch.

Day 2: Christchurch/ Aoraki/Mount Cook/ Queenstown
(369 miles) (optional meal plans begin today) Travel south across the Canterbury Plains, through the MacKenzie country via Lake Tekapo. Continue on to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. Consider a scenic flight over New Zealand’s finest alpine scenery. Travel on to Queenstown.

Day 3: Milford Sound Day Excursion
Travel with Great Sights by coach along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau, gateway to the Fjordland National Park. Upon arrival at Milford Sound, join your Milford Sound Red Boat Cruise for an unforgettable experience, and explore the wonder of this fjord. Return to Queenstown.

Day 4: Queenstown
A free day to enjoy the many activities on offer.

Day 5: Queenstown, Dunedin
(176 miles) Travel to Pukerangi where you will transfer to the Taieri Gorge train (Seat-in-Coach only). View Otago’s unspoilt landscape as your journey takes you into rugged terrain with sightseeing stops along the way.

Day 6: Dunedin
This morning you are at leisure. Perhaps visit the Jacobean Olveston House, take a guided tour of Larnach Castle or a stroll around Glenfalloch Gardens. This afternoon you will be taken on a tour of the Otago Peninsula including the renowned Royal Albatross Colony (seasonal).

Day 7: Dunedin, Christchurch
(255 miles) Further time at leisure this morning to enjoy the sights of Dunedin, a visit to the art gallery before returning to Christchurch.
