Self-Driving in New Zealand is a breeze. The roads are nearly always uncongested, and the local people will always help if visitors get lost. Sometimes the hardest thing is deciding where to go! This ‘All of New Zealand’ experience will capture your imagination and will give you time to relax and enjoy your vacation whilst seeing all the major attractions. From the sandy beaches in the Far North, to the adventure capital of the World – Queenstown, this itinerary has it all.

Day 1: Arrive Auckland
Welcome to Auckland. After collecting your rental car, we suggest you visit Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World & Antarctic Encounter.

Day 2: Auckland
A day at leisure.

Day 3: Auckland/Bay of Islands
(149 miles/240 kms) Head across the Auckland Harbor Bridge and journey to the Bay of Islands. Arrive in Paihia – perhaps visit the fascinating Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

Day 4: Bay of Islands
A day at leisure. Recommended is a day trip to Cape Reinga or a swim with the dolphins.

Day 5: Bay of Islands/Auckland
(149 miles/240 kms) Today, we suggest you take the State Highway 12 route to visit the historic Kauri Museum at Matakohe and drive through the majestic Waipoua Kauri Forest, home of the magnifi cent 'Tane Mahuta' kauri tree.

Day 6: Auckland/Waitomo/Rotorua
(219 miles/352 kms) Depart Auckland and cross Waikato farmlands to Waitomo where we suggest an optional tour of the spectacular Waitomo Glowworm Caves, abseil into the Lost World, or try blackwater rafting. Continue on to Rotorua.

Day 7: Rotorua
A day at leisure. We suggest visiting Te Whakarewarewa, Agrodome, Paradise Valley Springs or taking a dip at the Polynesian Thermal Pools. You may like to experience a Maori hangi and evening concert at a marae.

Day 8: Rotorua/Taupo
(50 miles/80 kms) En route to Taupo visit the Waiotapu Thermal Reserve or Wairakei Thermal Valley. A 'must-see' is the Huka Falls.

Day 9: Taupo/Tongariro National
PARK (68 miles/109 kms) Travel along the shores of Lake Taupo to Tongariro National Park.

Day 10: Tongariro National Park
Day at leisure to explore this National Park.

Day 11: Tongariro National Park/Wellington
(180 miles/290 kms) Travel through the coastal settlements of the Kapiti Coast to the capital of Wellington.

Day 12: Wellington
A day at leisure. Go shopping or visit magnifi cent 'Te Papa', the Museum of New Zealand.

'North Island' Tour concludes at Day 13: Wellington
Your tour arrangements conclude this morning.

New Zealand Tour Concludes at Day 13: Wellington/Picton/Christchurch
(210 miles/338 kms) (Passenger cost on interisland ferry not included). This morning take the interisland ferry to Picton before a scenic drive down the east coast of the South Island to Christchurch, the 'garden city'.

'South Island' Tour Commences Day 13: Arrive Christchurch
After arriving in Christchurch, enjoy leisure time to explore the city – perhaps take a tram around the inner city to see the Arts Center and Botanic Gardens.

Day 14: Christchurch/Mount Cook
REGION (209 miles/336 kms) Drive across the Canterbury Plains and view beautiful Lake Tekapo and the Church of the Good Shepherd, before arriving in the Aoraki- Mt Cook National Park region.

Day 15: Mount Cook Region/Dunedin
(205 miles/330 kms) This morning why not take a scenic flight. Depart for Dunedin, stopping en route to walk on Moeraki Beach to view the unique spherical boulders. Arrive in Dunedin, where you may have time for city sightseeing or shopping.

Day 16: Dunedin

A free day to explore the Dunedin region. Perhaps visit Olveston House, Larnach Castle or the rare Royal Albatross and Yellow Eyed Penguin colonies (seasonal).

Day 17: Dunedin/Te Anau
(180 miles/290 kms) Travel across farmlands before arriving in Te Anau, gateway to the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Te Anau Wildlife Center has information on this fascinating region.

Day 18: Te Anau/Milford Sound/Queenstown
Drive through Fiordland National Park to Milford Sound. Cruise on the Sound beneath sheer cliffs, cascading waterfalls and majestic Mitre Peak, before departing for Queenstown.

Day 19: Queenstown
A free day to enjoy the many leisure options. For a real thrill, challenge yourself to bungy jumping, rafting, jetboating or maybe a cruise onboard the historic TSS Earnslaw.

Day 20: Queenstown/Franz Josef
(251 miles/404 kms) Depart Queenstown and travel north via picturesque Lake Wanaka to arrive in Franz Josef, home of the world famous Franz Josef Glacier. DAY 21 – FRANZ JOSEF We suggest an optional scenic glacier fl ight or a guided glacier walk to enjoy the stunning scenery.

Day 22: Franz Josef/Greymouth
(111 miles/179 kms) Enjoy West Coast scenery as you head north to Greymouth. Perhaps visit Shantytown, or the White Heron Colony (seasonal) en route.

Day 23: Grey Mouth/Nelson
(180 miles/290 kms) Travel north to Nelson. View the famous Punakaiki pancake rocks, renowned for their spectacular blowholes.

Day 24: Nelson
Day at leisure in Nelson, renowned for its artistic community. We recommend an arts and crafts tour or a visit to the Abel Tasman National Park.

Day 25: Nelson/Christchurch
(265 miles/427km) Head south to arrive in Christchurch. Tonight you may like to visit the Casino, take a gondola ride or visit the Court Theatre.

Day 26: Depart Christchurch
Take the opportunity for last-minute shopping before your tour concludes.
